In celebration of one FABULOUS year of marriage I am going back and posting some of my favorite photos that never made it on the blog.
These photos were taken only days after our wedding while honeymooning in Charleston, South Carolina. Easily one of my favorite US cities. Hint, hint: If you haven’t been and you live on the East Coast it’s a NO BRAINER.
The American College of the Building Arts is the closest you will get to a skilled apprenticeship in this day and age. Students choose from courses in stone work, carpentry, plaster working, architectural ironwork, preservation masonry and timber framing, no English Literature for them! Just as incredible, the school was established in an old prison that was built in 1802 and part of its vision is to refurbish the historic building. I am so impressed with the vision to teach the skills of master craftsmen in an age of modernism. It is my hope that more schools like this will pop up all over the US and that more students will be given the opportunity to choose a career path that offers them hard skills and the chance to be called Master
I never expected that a small errand on our honeymoon would bring us across such a gem. Also, several photo credits go to my husband who is a fabulous second photographer.
Love, Love
